Plasma Rich Platelet Therapy

Plasma Rich Platelet Therapy

We are introducing a next generation injection procedure to our practice, which can help treat a range of orthopaedic conditions.

Plasma Rich Platelet therapy, essentially accelerates and aids the healing of injured tissues over the body by first taking blood from the patient. This gets placed in a machine to separate the blood into the different types of blood cells and further separate the platelet rich part to be mixed with local anaesthetic. This is prepared in an injection to be injected into the area of the injury.

Conditions that we can treat:

  • Tennis Elbow
  • Knee Arthritis
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Shoulder Arthritis
  • Golfer’s Elbow
  • Impingement Syndrome Of The Shoulder

The Benefits:

  • Your own blood is used therefore there is no risk of any disease transmission.
  • May eliminate the needs for more aggressive treatments, such as long term medication or surgery.
  • A remarkable return of function to the injured area.
  • Shorter recovery times.

How does it work?

Blood is a lot more than just a red liquid running through your arteries and vessels, it is in fact a very complex tissue. It contains six different types of cells all of which have different functions varying from carrying blood cells around the body to producing antibodies to give us immunity to disease. However, platelet rich plasma therapy is solely concerned with the platelets in the blood. Platelets are the smallest cells and responsible for releasing chemicals to make the blood clot and initiate repair.

The body’s first response to a soft tissue injury is to deliver platelet cells, therefore PRP jump starts and significantly strengthens the body’s natural healing process by increasing the concentration of platelets and growth factors at the site of injury by up to 500%, that’s five times the normal number of platelets/growth factors.
